Desktop Pipeline | AOL Launches Personalized Homepage
“By enabling consumers to create their own personal home page on AOL.com to manage all of their sources of online information in one central location, My AOL provides a convenient solution for a usually time-consuming ritual: visiting multiple Web sites and blogs multiple times each day to catch up on news,” said Kerry Parkins, director of audience products at AOL, a division on Time Warner.

‘TV Guide’ to be less of a guide, more a magazine
‘TV Guide’ to be less of a guide, more a magazine
Compounding the problem for TV Guide and all other printed listings of TV programs is this: More and more young Internet-savvy, Web-surfing, channel-flipping TV viewers are reluctant to page through a magazine to find out what’s on. They are going online and onscreen.
The internet impacts one of the strongest brands in a major way.

Podcasting: A Work in Progress - Yahoo! News
Podcasting: A Work in Progress - Yahoo! News
Podcasting might best be described as a work in progress. As quickly as the developers of one podcast technology launch an innovative market idea, a competing developer comes along to introduce another concept. Meanwhile, would-be listeners of podcast programming struggle with competing technologies.

VoIP security threats: Fact or fiction?
VoIP security threats: Fact or fiction?
Imagine an intruder found his way into your VoIP network undetected and began listening to any conversation he chose, extracting sensitive information, company secrets or even details he could use to blackmail your CEO.
Becasue VoIP and related SIP have grown so quickly, security has been almost an afterthought. Just as with Windows, as enough users use the technology there is a better “risk-reward” ratio for the would-be hacker. We will see a lot more about security issues and fortunately Cisco has spent a lot of time and money promoting the “security” idea of their products. I believe they will not sit back and watch while others find holes. They will be proactive instead of reactive.

If Feds Fail, What can Stop Identity Theft?
If Feds Fail, What can Stop Identity Theft?
Is there an identity theft crisis? Former National Security Council member Richard A. Clarke, for one, thinks so, and he recently called on Congress to “come up with an identity-protection bill of rights.” I think such a law would be a terrible mistake—as would most of the proposals circulating for increased federal oversight of information processing practices.
Professor Downes (UC-Berkeley) does an excellent job of explaining why governement regulation is of identity theft is not the slam dunk that many think it is.

The hottest things on the Net!
The hottest things on the Net!
They are the hottest new things on the Net. And they are catching on like wildfire. The disruptive technology which powers them could dramatically alter the way we read, listen, express ourselves and even do business.
Wiki, Podcasting and Google Earth are things that are challenging the time-tested and established institutions such as newspapers, radio encyclopaedia and the Atlas.
Seems like we might be on to something here at Digital Stakeholders.

‘Great Firewall’ - Arts Extra - MSNBC.com
‘Great Firewall’ - Arts Extra - MSNBC.com
With the number of Internet users in China expected to top 100 million by the end of this year, it’s no wonder U.S. businesses are eager to serve the second largest Internet market in the world. But in doing so, many technology companies have had to make some controversial compromises. Internet portals Yahoo and Google both filter (or allow filtering of) their search results in compliance with Chinese laws. And when Shanghai MSN Network Communications Technology, half-owned by Microsoft, recently launched a Chinese version of MSN My Space, a blog-hosting service, it ceded to Chinese demands to block words like “freedom†and “democracy†from use in blog titles. The Chinese are also using the powerful filtering tools in network routers made by Cisco Systems to restrict access to some Internet sites. (Cisco denies any direct compliance with Beijing.)
